Does Eyelash Serum Really Work?

Does Eyelash Serum Really Work?

Nothing makes me feel sexier than a set of sultry, dramatic lashes… am I right ladies?

We all want the perfect lash look, and there are TONS of ways to get the bold lash look we all dream of. From volumizing mascaras to false lashes to lash extensions, the beauty industry has caught up with our desire to have long, thick lashes that make our eyes stand out… but what if we could achieve that look NATURALLY? What if our lashes grew so long, thick and luscious that it looked like we were wearing falsies WITHOUT going for a lash fill? Well, that’s the promise of eyelash growth serums. But is it too good to be true? In this week’s blog post I’ll uncover lash fact from fiction.

What is eyelash growth serum?

Lash serum or eyelash growth serum is a product that promotes the health and growth of your natural lashes. Eyelash serums are applied morning and night to your upper lash line and promise stronger lashes resulting in less breakage and a thicker, longer lash look. And all this without mascara or false lashes!

How does it work?

Ok, I know. This sounds way too good to be true! But there’s a scientific reason high quality lash serums work. To understand how, you first need to understand how lashes grow.

Lashes grow in three phases:

  • Anagen phase - Eyelashes are growing from the root. This phase lasts 30-45 days.
  • Catagen phase - The hair follicle shrinks during this phase and no growth or regrowth can occur. This lasts 7-14 days. If a lash falls out during this phase, the follicle will need to wait until the next phase before a new lash can form.
  • Telogen phase - Lash is fully grown and will remain on the lid until it falls out. This can last up to 100 days.

Lash serums work to prevent breakage and lash fall. If lashes fall out in the Catagen phase, they won’t start growing again until the follicle opens up, which can take up to 2 weeks. If lashes fall during the final Telogen phase they will need to start the process again from phase 1 which can take up to 45 days! Even worse, if a lash is brittle and breaks rather than falls out, it will need to wait until the entire lash falls out and is replaced, which may take up to 100 days.

Any of the above scenarios will thin out your natural lash line, not allowing it to grow to its full potential. You’ll have short lashes where hairs have broken and have to wait for a full lash cycle to fall out and regrow, and you’ll have gaps in your lash line where lashes have fallen out prematurely.

Lash serum allows your lashes to remain healthy, strong and intact throughout all three phases. The ingredients in high-quality eyelash growth serums have been specially selected to strengthen the lash from root to tip, so that your lashes won’t break or fall out. In this way, your lashes can grow to their full potential without any gaps or shorter hairs in your lash line.

How can I tell if a lash serum is high quality?

Not all lash serums are created equal. When choosing a lash serum, always ensure that it’s

  • Cruelty-free
  • Paraben-free
  • Made from natural plant extracts

That way, you can ensure your lash serum is not only effective, but sustainable too.
