5 Vegan foods for healthy lashes

Just like the hair on your head, your lashes need some extra TLC if you want them to grow long, thick and strong. And yes, that isn’t the first time I’ve said this on the blog, but that’s because so many women don’t realise there are tons of small changes they can make in their beauty regimen that will help them grow gorgeous lashes naturally. Of course, avoiding false lashes and lash glue, removing your makeup before going to bed and investing in a high-quality lash serum are all amazing ways to protect and enhance your eyelashes. But did you know that even the food you eat affects your lashes too? That’s why in this week’s blog I’ll share 5 vegan foods for healthy lashes.

Why vegan?

Did you know that removing meat and dairy products from your diet can reduce your carbon footprint by 73%? Reducing your meat consumption can have massive environmental impacts, not to mention greatly reduce the number of animals harmed every year in factory farms. As a cruelty-free brand, EVEDARE is committed to sustainability, which is why we’ll focus on vegan foods for this post. And even if you aren’t ready to commit to going 100% vegan, introducing just one plant-based meal per day can make a big difference.

With that being said, here are the 5 vegan foods you should be eating for healthy lashes.

1)  Blueberries

Blueberries are considered a superfood, and for good reason! Loaded with antioxidants and Vitamin C, they protect your eyelash follicles from free radicals, which are molecules that can damage your lashes.

2)  Sweet potatoes

Vitamin A helps your body to produce sebum, which keeps your hair (and lashes) looking healthy. It has also been linked to hair growth. Although sweet potatoes don’t contain Vitamin A as such, they are a known source of beta-carotene, which your body then converts into Vitamin A.

3)  Avocados

Avocados are a great source of Vitamin B, an essential nutrient for healthy hair growth.  They’re also rich in fatty amino acids which provide moisture to dry, damaged lashes.

4)  Nuts

Nuts are truly an amazing source of nutrients that promote good lash growth. Firstly, they contain an amino acid called L-arginine, which improves blood flow and allows for better, faster growth. Secondly, nuts are an amazing source of omega 3 fatty acids, which promote the health of your hair follicles.

5)  Soybeans

A recent study suggested that soybeans may cause hair (and therefore lashes) to grow longer. This is because it allows the hair to stay in the anagen phase for longer periods of time, which is essentially the phase in the lash growth cycle in which your lashes grow longer. A few months ago I wrote an article explaining lash growth cycles, so don’t forget to check it out!

These are all wonderful foods for lash growth that will also help you reduce your environmental impact. If you want to learn more about creating a sustainable beauty regime, don’t forget to download my free complete guide to sustainable beauty and lash care!
