5 Pieces of Advice from America's Most Successful Business Women

Every woman needs a mentor. It could be a friend, a coach or perhaps, as it was in my case, somebody you’ve never met.

I often speak about how stepping into a more confident mindset is the key to achieving your dreams (check out our 15 Days Of Confidence Challenge if you haven’t yet!) What started this shift for me was reading books by inspiring men and women - people I would consider my mentors - who had achieved the things I also wanted to achieve in life.

In this week’s blog post, I’d like to share pieces of advice from 5 successful business women with the hope that their words will start the shift in you, too.

1. Embrace what sets you apart. - Roxanne Oulman

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you are powerful, fierce and GORGEOUS just the way you are! And even if there are hundreds of women going for the same goal as you, there’s one thing you have that they don’t - YOU! Take the things that make you unique and use them to your advantage.

2. Work hard but don’t forget who you are. - Marillyn Hewson.

The benefits of hard work shouldn’t come at the cost of what’s important to you. When I first launched EVEDARE, I would work through the night so often that my husband started worrying whether I was getting any sleep! But through it all, no matter how hard it was at times, I never let it get in the way of my positive attitude and my ability to dream big! If you work hard and stay true to what you believe in, you’ll have the ability to achieve whatever you put your mind to.

  1. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. - Melinda Gates

If it’s not scary, you’re not dreaming big enough! Nobody who ever achieved anything great did so by staying in their comfort zone! You need to take risks, be bold and step away from silence. You know how much I love TED Talks, so of course, I have one to share with you on this exact topic!

  1. Focus, focus, focus. - Abigail Johnson

The only way to be successful is to be consistent - to show up every day when others don’t. And to do this takes focus. It’s easy to get distracted when you aren’t seeing results right away, but the most successful women in the world don’t let that obscure their focus. They keep going, never backing down, and if you want to be successful in business you have to do the same.

  1. Don’t limit yourself. - Sheryl Sandberg

If you think your dreams are too big to achieve, it’s time to shift your mindset. Do you think Sheryl Sandberg became a billionaire by believing the voice in her head that said her dreams were too big? Do you think she was thinking small when she became Chief Operating Officer at Facebook? Of course not! Limiting beliefs are not going to get you any closer to your dreams, so it’s time to stop listening to them and start believing in yourself!
