I recently decided to learn how to play golf. And if you know me at all, you’re probably laughing to yourself as you imagine me, golf club in hand, hitting the ball into the nearest pond (I’d be lying if I said this hasn’t happened once…. Or maybe a bit more than once...)
I’ve been going at it for six months now, and believe me, there are only so many times you can swing and miss before you seriously begin to question why you’re even trying at all!
But then my coach reminded me: Just like any skill, all it takes is practice. No matter how terrible you are when you first begin, simply showing up consistently is all it takes to improve.
And I truly believe that the same applies to develop our self confidence.
Yes, gorgeous, self confidence is a SKILL that you CAN learn! It’s a skill that, personally, took me years to develop. From climbing the corporate ladder in my twenties in a male-dominated world, doubting myself every step of the way, to being a female business owner today, it took many twists, turns and lessons to get where I am now.
It’s my goal with EVEDARE to help women grow their confidence WITHOUT all the years of struggle that I went through, which is why I’ve written this blog post this week. I only wish I had these tools for boosting self confidence back then; it sure would have made the last decade a lot easier!
When Kim Palmer, founder of the Clementine hypnotherapy app, was working in a senior marketing position, she started suffering debilitating panic attacks. It was through her discovery of hypnotherapy that she was able to get back on her feet, rebuild her confidence, and build her very own successful company.
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool that has been scientifically proven to help aid weight loss as well as reduce pain in children and help smokers quit. By tapping into your subconscious mind, hypnotherapy has the power to eliminate unwanted habits like negative self talk.
I love Kim’s free app, Clementine, with tons of hypnotherapy sessions not only for confidence, but stress and sleep too. Download it on iTunes here.
- Refine your social media
The easiest way to knock your self-confidence is to compare yourself to others - there’s a reason they say the comparison is the thief of joy! Even science has proven this: a study found that people with low self-esteem often practice what is called “upward comparison” - comparing ourselves to someone we deem better than us. It’s no surprise that the same study proved that this only takes a greater knock at our self-confidence.
And let’s be honest - the best way to start comparing ourselves to others is to log on to social media! We are bombarded with images of gorgeous, successful women. And don’t get me wrong, I’m all about supporting our fellow females, but not at the cost of our self-confidence!
I’m not suggesting we get off social media entirely. Instead, mute or unfollow accounts that make you feel bad about yourself. Instead, fill your feed with accounts that inspire and motivate you. That way, scrolling through Instagram or Facebook will be an enriching experience, one that boosts your confidence rather than destroys it.
